Many of the most successful fusion bands of the 1970s emerged from Miles Davis’s groups, including Weather Report, led by Davis alumni Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul. Weather Report succeeded in creating a seamless group sound, filled with constant dialogue among the musicians rather than long stretches of solos.
