1935-1962: Jazz hits "The Street"

Fifty-second Street between Fifth and Seventh Avenues, in the heart of New York City, becomes home to the greatest concentration of jazz clubs in the country. In December 1943, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie's extraordinary performance at the Onyx nightclub puts bebop on the map.
